audio
Although I've always enjoyed making noise, I only started learning about it properly in August 2021.
I began with voice recording and SFX in Audacity, then downloaded Cakewalk to pursue music production.
Since then, I've garnered experience in other programs such as Audition, Studio One, and now Ableton.
Currently, I'm exploring sound design and music production for many of my projects,
both personal and professional.
sound design
I handled all sound design and mixing for this film, which was submitted to the 2024 Candy Bowl - a halloween film contest/festival held annually by Nick Nocturne (aka Night Mind). Much to the team's delight (and mine), this entry won top-of-the-night placement in the festival!
Per the theming and content of the film, I made thorough use of Hanna-Barbera sound effects, which are then twisted and distorted as the plot continues on a much darker path.
Additionally, all foley for the live action elements were built and timed from scratch, since the original recorded audio was unfortunately unusable. Although this was a rather painstaking process, it taught me a great deal about both the benefits and limitations of having total control over the entire sound of a scene clip-for-clip. It also taught me that you can only re-use and re-pitch repetitive samples like footsteps so many times before it sounds too weird. Thankfully, I think I got away with it here.
This is a BTS video I made that goes into detail about how certain SFX from Quality Assurance were made, specifically for the "Frostburner" product- an overengineered paintball gun that can launch pellets of pure flame and frost.
Most of the source samples for the SFX covered in this video were sourced from sites such as Pixabay and Freesound, which I've found to be reliable repositories during my sound design ventures. All these samples were then layered, edited and mixed within Audacity.
I still plan to (eventually) finish and upload the remainder of this series, which covers the entire catalogue of Fabri-Co's "products," as all the scripts have already been recorded and the respective clips for each video have been cut together.
Unfortunately, I did all of that work in Adobe Premiere, which I stopped working with after prying off the leech that is the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, so it's effectively being held hostage in an Adobe project file.
Still working out how to get it back.
These two videos respectively showcase and break down the sound design of Mega Murphy, the hulking robotic head of Fabri-Co HR and Quality Assurance's final boss.
The left video shows how each finished clip syncs to Mega Murphy's actions, and the right video picks apart each clip layer by layer for reference.
music production
The following are audio visualizers for the music I've created. Take a listen!
